Poznań is a place where a new form of location-based games, namely a tourist game for individual players, has been created.
Players download a starter card online from: www.gryturystyczne.pl or pick it from a tourist information centre, and can use it at a convenient time and pace. Even though in such games there are no coordinators, they are designed in such a way that the city itself guides the players. At present, 27 games that depict Poznań and its nearest area from different perspectives, are available to players. One of them is devoted to the Cathedral Island, the oldest part of Poznań, another one to the Greater Poland uprising, and another one to the places which the kings and emperors who visited Poznań were related to. Scenarios have been written in such a way as to be completed within several hours, ensuring appeal and clarity even for players who are not familiar with the city’s history. Players are supposed to follow tracks in the form of inscriptions, hidden sculptures, architectural details, which, when combined with the content of the starter card, become transparent tips leading to the game finale. Players can feel like the protagonists of “The Da Vinci Code”.
